Oil and gas, automotive, manufacturing and food production are among the major end markets for programmable logic controllers (PLC).
Industrial automation is providing jobs for technically trained people who can build, program, integrate, service, maintain and operate PLCs. Acquire the technical skills and knowledge needed to work with electrical control systems typically found in an industrial environment, design ladder logic programs and perform tests. Simulate the operation of real-world components, including motors, solenoid valves and a wide variety of other discrete and analog input/output devices. This certificate program meets the needs of both employers who require a highly skilled technical workforce and students who require cost-effective, high-quality, fully accredited technical training.
CURRICULUM: The PLC Technician II consists of 19 modules of interactive curriculum using text, video, audio, 2D and 3D animations and laboratory simulation software. This DVD based multimedia program includes pre-tests, interactive exercises, sample exams and online technical and tutorial support to help prepare you for online computer-based final exams. The program material and simulation software, PLCLogix, which is integrated into this program, are based on the Rockwell Logix 5000 series PLC control software. PLCLogix now contains 10 interactive 3D animations or “3DWorlds” which emulate a wide range of manufacturing and service applications. The PLC Technician II Program is open enrollment program with no predetermined time limits. That means you can start at your convenience and finish at your own pace.
EDUCATION PREREQUISITES: Students entering this program must have a high school diploma with credits at, or above, the general level or hold a equivalent mature student status to enter the program. Previous PLC experience is helpful, but not essential.
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: Students must have access to a personal computer with the following minimum configuration
- DVD drive & Sound Card
- Intel Pentium or equivalent
- 64 MB RAM for PLC II
- 100 MB available disk space
- Windows based operating system including XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
- Internet Access
- Email account
- Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail or any other MAPI compliant application
The PLC Technician Certificate program prepares graduates of the program for employment and/or further on-the-job training as a PLC technician in the field of consumer, commercial and industrial electronics. As well, it will enable students to provide technical support and service during the production, installation, operation and repair of PLC equipment and systems.
